A camping trip with your four-legged friend could be the perfect adventure, as plenty of camping and caravan parks are ideally situated for walking and exploring the countryside and beaches.

Dog-friendly campsites

First, decide where you would like to station yourself to enjoy your great outdoor experience. Ideally, you’ll be looking for a good dog-friendly campsite, where there are plenty of things to do.

Look for long scenic walks and fun activities nearby, such as local beaches. Check out the on-site facilities, such as areas where you can safely let your pet run around and play. Find out if there are any animal-friendly pubs and places to dine out, either on the campsite or nearby.

Don’t forget; a caravan can quickly get hot inside, like a car, so don’t leave your pet alone inside. Take a tether if you’re on a busy campsite if your dog is likely to run off at the merest sniff of a barbecue. Find out the number of the local vet in case of emergencies and make sure your pet’s microchip is up to date – they should wear a collar and tag at all times.

We’re so lucky to have picturesque countryside in the UK – it’s a pleasure to get outside and take in some good old fashioned fresh air. A lot of campsites will place water bowls for pets around the site. Look out for them so your furry friend can grab a quick drink during a walk, especially on a hot day.

If your dog hasn’t been camping before, it’s a case of practice makes perfect. It’s worth pitching the tent in your garden before you go, so they can get used to the sleeping conditions in advance.

Canine etiquette

If you’re staying in a caravan, it may seem like home, but set some boundaries, such as making your furry friend sleep on their own bed.

Brush up on your dog’s basic training before you go camping together. A campsite can be an exciting place – but unless you maintain control, this can turn another camper’s holiday into a nightmare!

If your pet lacks good recall skills, jumps up at people, or tries to steal their food; ensure they are kept on a lead in public places.

It goes without saying that you must always clean up after your dog, whether on the campsite, or in public places – dog mess is a health hazard.

Globe Vale

Dogs are always welcome at Globe Vale Holiday Park. A five-star, dog-friendly haven, that is open all year round, we are central to many beautiful locations that you will love to explore with your canine companion. Cornish beaches including Trevaunance Cove, Gwithian and Perran Sands are nearby. There are also plenty of walks, such as the Coast-to-Coast Mineral Tramway Track.

Globe Vale also has an onsite exercise field, where guests’ dogs can stretch their legs. We have a dedicated room, the Beacon Terrace, where you can take your dog when you dine at our restaurant, The Shaft Inn.

Outside the campsite, there are many dog-friendly local pubs including The Treleigh Arms, the Miners’ Arms at Mithian and plenty more. If you need a pet-free day, or your dog needs a day off after lots of activities, Briggan Farm Kennels will take the lead for the day!
